Tozier Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Located at the base of Table Mountain, north of Oroville, California, Tozier Ranch is in the heart of olive country. Our 275 acre ranch includes Mission olives from trees over a century old, and a forty year old orchard of Manzanillo olives.
Although not organic certified, we grow our olives using organic practices and harvest by hand to minimize bruising and damage to the fruit and trees. The Manzanillo olives are dry farmed (no irrigation), and generally harvested in late November to early December. The Missions are irrigated, as they have been for nearly a century. These are harvested early December to late January, before winter storms take a toll. Unfortunately, the 2018 Camp Fire that destroyed the town of Paradise, also destroyed the flumes that carried the water used to irrigate our Mission olives. The smoke was so fierce in November 2018, that we couldn't harvest; and now in 2019 with no irrigation water available, we have no crop. If and when PG&E restores water to the canal, we hope our trees will come back. It's very sad.....and we, along with others along the Miocene Canal, are the casualties AFTER the fire. Visit the Miocene Canal Facebook page to read the history and what we're doing to bring it back for the valuable agricultural and environmental resources it provided.
The olives are cold pressed at a local mill within 24 hours of hand harvesting, to insure quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The Manzanillo Olive Oil has a uniquely delicious grassy peppery taste…wonderful on salads, grilling meat and vegetables, and for bread dipping. The Mission Olive Oil has a mild, buttery flavor…wonderful for salads, grilling, bread dipping and baking. With our Ranch Blend, you get the best of both varieties…the grassy, peppery zing of the Manzanillo, mellowed by the buttery Mission. There is something for every palate.
